RANA University (hereinafter refers to as “RU”) is an institution established in 2009 and registered with the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is an Institute of Higher Education in Kabul City. In compliance with all the policies and procedures and the quality assurance guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education, RANA was awarded the title of University wide certificate number 15/710, issued by the Ministry of Higher Education of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on July 13, 2014.

Job Summary

The Computer Lab Officer at Rana University is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the university's computer lab. This includes managing computer equipment, networks, and software, ensuring they function efficiently and securely. The role involves troubleshooting technical issues, installing and updating software, providing support to students and faculty, and ensuring adherence to safety and security policies. Additionally, the Computer Lab Officer will assist in resource management, schedule lab usage, and prepare periodic reports on equipment and resource status. The position requires strong technical skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced academic environment.

Job Description

  • Organizing the monthly, quarterly, and annual plans and reports to ensure timely completion of all tasks, responsibilities, and compliance.

  • Ensuring the proper functioning of all computer equipment, networks, and software in the laboratory.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with systems and performing necessary configurations to improve their performance.

  • Installing and updating required software based on the university’s educational and application programs.

  • Monitoring software licenses and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to software.

  • Implementing security policies to protect information and systems, and preventing unauthorized access.

  • Running antivirus programs and ensuring regular updates to protect systems from cyber threats.

  • Providing guidance and assistance to students and faculty in using laboratory equipment and software.

  • Educating users on safety principles, equipment maintenance, and proper use of software.

  • Managing and monitoring consumable resources, including peripherals and computer equipment.

  • Preparing periodic reports on the status of equipment, resource consumption, and future needs to be presented to the university management.

  • Identifying needs and making recommendations for improving and upgrading the existing equipment and resources in the laboratory.

  • Planning and following up on the purchase of new equipment or the replacement of outdated equipment.

  • Creating and managing a schedule for laboratory use, ensuring sufficient space for educational and research activities.

  • Monitoring compliance with regulations and maintaining order in the laboratory by users.

  • Providing safety instructions and ensuring their compliance by laboratory users.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor according to legal requirements.
